Pilots were
awakened early this morning for an Ops show, on which they dropped
500 lb bombs on Noball Target No. 40 just north-east of "La
Foret de Crecy". F/O Monson could not get his aircraft
started & F/O Smith was forced to turn back just as we were
crossing out because of poor oil pressure. A number of bombs were
seen to explode within the target area, but two burst outside due
to temporary hang-ups. A party was held last night at the
Unicorn, Chichester, to enable 144 & 143 Airfields to bid each
other "adieu'. About 50 officers from each airfield attended.
