Hurn
Good cool weather all
day with a chilling breeze. Nine of our aircraft carried out an
operation on the Marshalling Yards at Douai in France which was
a good success. F/O Jake Ross was a little disappointed when he
couldn't accompany the 439 Trouble Shooters due to engine
trouble. Our pilots were briefed and bombed up with 500 pounders
at Manston whence they took off for the target.

Details
of Sortie or Flight
Our
aircraft landed at Manston where they were briefed and
loaded with 500 lb. bombs and from there, they took
off at 11:35 hrs. returned to Manston at 12:55 hrs. to
refuel and then returned to 143 Airfield at 14:45 hrs.
F/O Ross could not make the grade due to an
unserviceable fairing on his undercarriage. The target
was the marshalling yards at Daoui in France which
were very successfully bombed. We were very
unfortunate in losing W/C Davidson, our Wing leader,
who went missing on returning from the target.
