Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

14 May 1944

 R.A.F. Hutton Cranswick

Cloudy all day with a fairly strong breeze, but the sun did manage to reveal its rays intermittently. One of our petrol bowsers arrived this morning from 143 Airfield and which will largely assist in refueling our aircraft. Flying commenced at 0905 hrs. today and terminated at 1745 hrs. The pilots practiced a considerable amount of high Dive-Bombing and Air to Ground firing. The accuracy is showing an improvement. Two of our aircraft MN553 and MN356 flew back to Hurn to have their first minor inspection. Five additional aircraft arrived this afternoon, three of which are new to the Squadron, i.e. Nos. MN435, MN574, and MN580, the other two have been repaired following damage by flak.

F/L Tommy Dadson, our "A" Flight Commander hit the headlines when he received news from home to the effect that his wife gave birth to twins, both males. 439 engaged 16 APC in a softball match and our fellows managed to get a lot of practice sprinting around the bases and consequently wore a fairly deep path around the bases. F/O MacDonald was sent to the Bascombe Hospital by "Doc" Moffat, our Squadron butcher for an operation on his appendix.
