 R.A.F. Hutton Cranswick

Cloudy all day, but in spite of that, training at 16 APC was concluded in the morning. In the afternoon the aircraft were again inspected prior to take-off to our base at 143 airfield at 1600 hrs. Twelve of our aircraft took-off landing at 143 Airfield at 1700 hrs. Two of the aircraft could not make it due to unserviceability and inclement weather. After having all vehicles packed, refuelled and prepared to depart the following morning with our personnel, news was received from our Airfield that all groundcrews were to remain as 438 Squadron is arriving to carry out a weeks training at 16 APC. Although a few new adjectives were added to the vocabulary, arrangements were made to unpack vehicles, but it was impossible to cancel preparation of rations for the convoy as they were already prepared, thus giving Hutton Cranswick an opportunity of throwing a tea part. As the Squadron saying goes " you never know".
