Cloudy all day. The two
vehicles with pilots and few groundcrews left Northampton in the
morning and reached their destination at the Airfield in the
evening. No operations carried out by the Squadron, but flying
consisted of A&E Air Tests only. The bumph boys of 439
dashed hither and thither looking for a nice quiet location to
set up the office, but with our static vehicle in Hutton
Cranswick and our tent having disappeared into thin air, we
settled in the old Wing Headquarters rendezvous. One of our
aero-engine mechanics, Cpl Cappleman was promoted to the rank of
Sergeant. A new addition posted to the Squadron is J20587 F/O
E.J. Allen. In the evening some of our officers were treading a
light measure to the soothing tune of 143 Wing band. Choice
vital vittles and members of the weaker sex added colour to this
social function.
