Good clear and warm weather all day. Operations were carried out on a radar installation west of Omonville in the Cherbourg Peninsula. Our 12 aircraft escorted 247 Rocket Squadron, some preceding the RP Squadron and some going in with the Squadron. The first section of our aircraft did some pretty good straffing and caused a reduction in density of flak. A little local practice diving was carried out.

Details of Sortie or Flight

439 Squadron, flying in three sections, escorted the Rocket Squadron 247, in an attack against a Radar installation just west of Omonville in the Cherbourg Peninsula. The first section went in ahead and straffed the target and the flak positions near it. Our second section went in with the first section of Rockets and sprayed the flak areas to the west and the South-East of the target. Our third section escorted the second group of Rockets down in like manner. Flak was fairly heavy during the initial stages of the attack but tapered off quickly. Numerous strikes were observed by the Rockets in the immediate vicinity of the target. The target was believed to have been destroyed.
