Hurn
Good weather all day
with a bit of thin cloud. It was very hot today. Our ground crew
returned from 16 APC Hutton Cranswick today by road convoy. Some
of the pilots were photographed for their new identity cards and
arrangements made for all ground crews. One of our aircraft
became a little impatient in the evening around 22;15 hrs when
three of the cannon began firing, the fourth had a stoppage. It
is presumed to be due to a technical failure. Ten of our
aircraft carried out an operation on a Noball target at
Vacquriette with 500 lb. bombs late in the afternoon.

Details
of Sortie or Flight
The
Squadron was briefed to attack a Noball target near
Headin (Vacquriette ) and proceeded to Gravesend where
the aircraft were reported and bombed up with 500 lb.
bombs .025 fused. Led by F/L Saville, with F/O Monson
as Deputy Leader, the Squadron (10 A/C) crossed in at
Ouend Plage and proceeded directly to the target at
8000'. Very little flak was thrown up at us, all bombs
dropped in the immediate vicinity of the target. Large
numbers of Thunderbolts & Spitfires were seen a
few miles west of our target. The actual attack made
from S. to N. was successfully carried out by diving
from 8000' to 4000'. 14 bombs were observed to
explode in the centre of the target with 4 bombs
overshooting by 100 yds. and 2 by the same margin
undershooting. All our aircraft returned untouched to
Gravesend where the pilots were interrogated and the
aircraft refuelled.
