Drizzling weather all
morning clearing up in the afternoon. Some of our tents were
struck in the morning and loaded into our 30 cwt. which is going
to proceed overseas with "B" Party. The pilots moved
from their present seat of industry to the old Wing Headquarters
building and their Marquis was struck and packed up. Some of the
flying types alternated at the waterproofing parachute boxes.
The airmen also confined their efforts to packing their kit and
tents. One operation was carried out today.

W/C
Judd, flying with 438 led the three squadrons, 438,
439 and 440 across the Channel to dive bomb targets of
opportunity found in an area of one square mile just
east of Varsville. 439 with twelve aircraft carrying
500 lb. M.C. bombs instantaneous fuses attacked the
target area two minutes after 438. The three squadrons
plastered the target area pretty well but no good
specific targets were attacked. All aircraft returned
safely - no flak or enemy aircraft were seen.
Webmaster's
Notes:
(1) According to the Logbook of F/O GW
Hewson, the Squadron carried 2 x 500 lb bombs.
(2) The 541
Form for the month of June 1944 is extremely illegible, and
difficult to read, and may entail a trip to Ottawa to get a
better copy out of the Directorate of History. Hopefully theirs
will more legible.
In the meantime, illegible text is indicated by a
series of question " ? " marks.
