Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

Good clear weather all day. The pilots were out on an early morning jaunt to work up an appetite for breakfast. The offensive was carried out by ten aircraft led by W/C Judd. The second show of the day commenced at 20:20 hrs in which 8 aircraft took part led by F/L Dadson. The remaining pilots were on 30 min. readiness during the day.

Details of Sortie or Flight

The Squadron of eight aircraft each carrying 500 lb. M.C. 11 sec delay bombs and two Typhoons as fighter escort, carried out a low level reconnaissance of the railway line  ????????????????????????? bombs were observed to burst directly on the railway ???????? with the remainder scoring near misses. Next sentence is illegible. All aircraft returned safely.

(1)  The 541 Form for the month of June 1944 is extremely illegible, and difficult to read, and may entail a trip to Ottawa to get a better copy out of the Directorate of History. Hopefully theirs will more legible.
