Details of Sortie or Flight

With the information in mind that the enemy had a Regimental Headquarters established at ????? sur--Orne (just South of Caen), S/L Norsworthy took the Squadron into the air laden with 1000 lb MC bombs. After obtaining 8000 ft. altitude, we crossed into the target over a blanket of stratus cloud at 5000 ft. Certain that he was near the target, perhaps operational intuition, S/L Norsworthy and his No. 2 dove through cloud to locate the target and came right back up with a trail of flak right behind them. The target was right below, he said. Our Squadron immediately rolled into the dive from 8000 ft. and came through the cloud blanket  right over the target in a 50 degree dive from Southwest to Northeast. Two bombs overshot, and the remainder were dead on target. A quick pull out was made at 2000 ft and the target area was left in a cloud of smoke and dust. Despite heavy & accurate flak, all our aircraft returned safely.
