all day. The pilots were aroused early in the morning for an
operational which did not materialize. However, we managed to
squeeze one in the afternoon. F/L Tommy Dadson proceeded to England
to pick up an Auster (1) for our Squadron. Ken Scharff returned from
England with a new Typhoon.

Details
of Sortie or Flight
Two
of our aircraft, together with three of 438 Squadron,
were detailed to bomb a bridge southeast of St. Martin
de Montenay
(002620)
over the river Orne. One of 438's aircraft returned
early with engine trouble. F/L Burns of 438 led the
flight and orbitted for a considerable time over the
target area due to the 8 to 9/10ths cloud at 5000 ft.
and dove through at an angle of 45 degrees with the
other four aircraft following. 1000 pounders were
release at 2000 ft, four of which scored direct hits,
knocking the bridge into the river. The flight zig-zagged to beat the band in dodging the flak. All
aircraft returned to base safely and enthusiastic over
the damage wrought mainly because it was another blow
for victory.
