Details of Sortie or Flight

In response to an earnest appeal by W/C Judd, Wing Leader, he pulled a show out of the bag at last and the Squadron had a chance once more to display its wares. Carrying 2 x 1000 lb. bombs each, 13 bombphoons took to the air with the intention of carrying out an armed recce over the area from Villers ????, Falaise, M???? to Bernier. S/L Norsworthy and Johnny Kalen bombed (damaged) a small road bridge just north of Falaise (9623339) and the remainder of the Squadron led by W/C Judd, attacked and damaged a small railway bridge just a few miles east of Falaise. No direct hits were seen, but some were observed 10 yards from the east end which cut the railway lines. F/O Smith had difficulty starting and was unable to catch the Squadron in the air. He jettisoned  his bombs over enemy territory.  The heavy flak thrown up from the Foret de Crimbosque caused damage to the aircraft flown by F/L Fiset, thus he and his number two were forced to return safely. The ten remaining aircraft carried out an uneventful patrol. All aircraft returned safely to base.
