for

13 July 1944

 R.C.A.F. Lantheuil

Cloudy all morning, but it cleared up considerably in the afternoon. Since there were no operations in the morning and the Squadron was on one hour readiness, the airmen played softball in our dispersal, others played cards. F/O Ray Brown, the Squadron sports Officer together with F/O Johnny Kalen dug the horse-shoe pits and laid plans for putting up a volley ball net. One operation was carried out after supper.

Details of Sortie or Flight

A large concentration of enemy troops and M.T. were believed present in the woods at Demouville (100675). The Squadron, led by S/L  Norsworthy, carried 1000 lb. bombs into the air in an attempt to smash the reported concentration. Due to mechanical trouble, F/O Gray returned to base early with his bombs on. Low clouds made map reading difficult so that six aircraft bombed T?????. F/O Smith and F/O Kalen bombed the right target. In each case, bombing results were not easily apparent but all bombs landed in the target area which caused slight damage to the aircraft flown by S/L Norsworthy. All aircraft returned safely to base.
