Cloudy
all day which permitted only one operation before lunch. Our
Station Commander, W/C Hillock officially handed over his duties
to G/C Davoud, DFC, DSO, who was previously commander of 22
Sector as the result of the abolishment of Sectors, and the
proposed enlargement of Wings to include more squadrons. Jerry
contributed to the evening's program by crossing over and near
our dispersal with bombers which apparently attacked the
beachhead and invited hell from local and distant flak. The
personnel around here are too frequently robbed of their
slumbers due to regular nocturnal enemy activity. But to say the
least, the morale of our Squadron has not been affected by the
enemy.

Details
of Sortie or Flight
The
Squadron, led by F/L Dadson was sent off to attack
railway cuttings or embankments between Breux
and Laiglew.
Only two of the pilots were able to locate the target
due to the cloud base at 2500 ft. and one released his
bombs (F/O Swingler). One was seen to explode on the
embankment, the other was a near miss, the other pilot
(F/L Dadson) who found the target could not release
his bombs, due to hang ups, and returned with them.
The remainder of the Squadron jettisoned their bombs
in the target area with unobserved results. All
aircraft returned safely to base.
Webmaster's
Notes:
(1) The Logbook of F/O GW
Hewson records that he had a hang-up on this mission while
flying Typhoon M. He also notes that it was near Paris
that the mission was carried out.
(2) Geale also carried out a 20
minute A & E test flight on Typhoon T, the results of
which were not recorded, nor the reason for the test
flight.
