August 1944
R.C.A.F.
Lantheuil, France
Cloudy
in the morning with a heavy ground haze. Information has been
received through our Operations Section that, the enemy has made
extensive use of head cover and thick roofed dugouts in forward
areas. Consequently, bombs are to be fused - tail, 0.25
seconds on bombing of troops and gun positions in forward areas.
Nose, instantaneous fusing to be used only on attack of M.T.
concentrations in rear areas and Airfields, when splinter damage
is required. An appreciation has been received through 483 G.C.C.
from the 2nd Army, for the part played by the pilots in
the past week which is considered as having prevented enemy
forces from moving their armour from the Caen sector to the west
and permitted the attacks of the British 8th Corps and U.S.A.
forces to proceed without serious armoured opposition.
No
operations were carried out today.
