This Day In History

Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

05 August 1944

 R.C.A.F. Lantheuil, France

Low cloud  and haze all morning partially clearing up in the afternoon. S/L Norsworthy and F/O Hewson proceeded on leave this afternoon, therefore, F/L Fiset is our temporary C.O.

No operations were carried out which gave the pilots an opportunity to assist in decorating the Mess for to-night's party, to which Canadian and English nurses were invited. Late in the afternoon, we had a little rain. The party turned out to be quite a success, except that there was a shortage of females and the alcohol ran out too early. The pilots who proceeded to Boscombe on the 2nd, returned late this afternoon, but no official report has yet been received on the G.P. bombs which failed to explode on the operation of July 17th.
