Group
Control Centre rather optimistically cocked an eye at the
weather this morning and the result was that S/L
Norsworthy led eight aircraft from our Squadron into the
air at 08:15 hours. The object of the mission was to carry
out an armed recce over the Liesieux-Orbec-Broglic-Bernay-Thiberville
area. Heavy low cloud was encountered over the
target area and S/L Norsworthy sent Red 3 and 4 through
cloud to find out how it was. F/O Hogg and Stelter found
the cloud base at 4000 feet but broken stratus at varying
heights below that so it was deemed advisable not to carry
out the mission. All aircraft accordingly returned to
base.
Webmaster's Notes:
(1)
Aloft in Typhoon M , on his first mission of the day, F/O
GW Hewson commented in his log book that
"the weather stunk" and that
they turned back.

W/C
Judd was to lead this armed recce but his aircraft became
unserviceable and he did not become airborne. F/O Burgess
led the seven Squadron aircraft to the area
Orbec-Beaumont-Bernay-Broglic and carried out the mission.
Everything was quiet in the area and the only attack made
on this mission resulted in one MET flamer at Map
reference 695754. No movement was seen but three tanks
were reported stationary at Broglic. No flak was seen and
after almost an almost uneventful patrol, all aircraft
returned safely to base.
Webmaster's Notes:
(1)
Still in his trusty steed, Typhoon M , in the area south,
south-east of Bernay, F/O GW Hewson found some
"bona fide ambulances". Other
than that he comments "No flak . No
score" in his log book..
