R.C.A.F.
Amiens / Glisy, France
Cloudy
all morning with heavy rain in the late evening and all during
the night. Word was received in the afternoon that the Wing
moves to an aerodrome east of Brussels, Belgium, B.58. Most of
the pilots flew down in the afternoon, some got lost and landed
at Beauvais, while a few others could not take off due to
unserviceable aircraft. The new field is equipped with three
concrete runways but only one is serviceable and that is about a
mile long. There is a considerable number of enemy aircraft,
bombs and equipment at the new locality. The hangars were heated
at one time and were camouflaged to resemble houses. The
vegetable gardens within the field provide ample greens for the
messes. The truck and jeep belonging to the Squadron were again
loaded up for the move tomorrow. Can J.37846 F/O J. Carr arrived
to boost up the strength of the pilots.

Webmaster's Notes:
Although there were no operations carried out, there was
flying to be done. F/O GW Hewson's logbook shows that he
carried out a 50 minute flight in Typhoon M from B24
to Amiens - Brussels Melsbrooke . He notes :
"Only a day behind the Boche
now. The Belgians are wonderful - marvellous reception."
