Heavy
ground haze in the morning clearing up before lunch time, but
prospects of a good day diminished with a low ceiling in the afternoon
and evening. F/O's J. Stelter and R.N. MacDonald proceeded on leave
today, luck fellows! F/L K.J. Fiset's promotion to the rank of Acting
Squadron Leader came through by signal today, and to complete the
picture, he was also awarded the DFC for his good efforts on
operations before being posted from 438 Squadron and good scores with
our own Squadron. Two more operations today we're coming along slow,
but sure.

Details
of Sortie or Flight
Nine
aircraft took-off, led by F/O Monson, to do an Armed Recce over
Tilburg and Eindhoven. The clouds were 5/10ths at 4,000 feet.
Over the area, Red and Blue Flight separated and patrolled by
themselves. Three and four of Red Section went down on two
barges at E.6305 which they damaged. Red 4 (F/O Laurence) went
through some high tension cables and in doing so, damaged his
starboard wing and propellor but returned safely. Red Section
then found a convoy and destroyed two vehicles. Blue Section
damaged an electric train and took a few squirts at some barges.
In general, there was very little movement seen. All aircraft
returned safely to base.
