February 1944
R.A.F.
Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland
Letter
received today from H.Q. No. 13 Group inviting two pilots to
be attached to Army Units during a series of Assault
Landing Exercises in the Moray Firth area. These exercises
should give the pilot some insight into the organization,
lay-out and problems confronting the Army and the Navy. The
pilots attending should gather useful knowledge of the
methods, formations and tactics employed so that they will be
able to recognize the stage of the assault and the craft,
vehicles and equipment used by our forces. Two pilots
will be going on Feb. 5th 1944 and two more on Feb. 19th, 1944.
I know all pilots will want to go, but only four will be able
to. No flying all day, as weather very bad.
