This Day In History

Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

24 November 1944

 B-78 Holland

As usual recently, it rained all day at that. e get quite a bit of comfort out of taking coffee and tea in the morning and afternoon as well as toast, in the pilot's tent. The airmen are able to prepare snacks for themselves also especially now since many Christmas parcels are rolling in. J.14529 F/O .A. Cote has been promoted to temporary Flight Lieutenant as promulgated in R.C.A.F. Overseas Order No. 1182/44. F/L J.E. Hogg returned from leave this morning by air. It is surprising the way the Burrow, DC-3 and Anson always manage to come in and depart rain or shine.

F/O R.V. Smith who was blown out of his aircraft on 22.10.44 was discharged from 52 M.P.H. and is pending posting. He was recommended for one month's leave in Canada, failing that, he is very keen on returning to the squadron and dislikes the idea of doing non-operational flying in England. F/O P.N. Bernhart, tour-expired, finally got away to England where he will probably do his non-operational tour. No operations were carried out and no flying done except for two A&E tests.
