Complete
overcast in the morning with a partial haze, breaking up towards
lunch-time raising our hopes for operations. Early in the afternoon it
completely closed in again so that no operations were on the program
and the only flying consisted of 3 A&E tests. R.164360 F/Sgt
Propas arrived today on posting from 83 G.S.U. boosting our pilot
strength to 24. One aircraft is still unserviceable.
Tonight,
439 officers invited all airmen of their Squadron to a party in
the Central Airmens' Mess. Both the officers and airmen helped to
clean the place and modestly decorated it. The white bar with ample
streaks of orange, Belgian and English beer received the suspected
patronage. F/O Walt Kubicki beat out the rhythm on the piano whilst
the gang chanted many of the old songs, as well as those in the
repertoire compiled by F/O Mickey Harrison. F/O Lyal Shaver composed a
439 song which officers introduced at the party.
