Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

05 March 1944

 R.A.F. Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland

A Church Service was held this morning at 1015 hours in our Flight Room by S/L Ashford, our Protestant Padre. He gave us a very interesting sermon, and we will be having as many services as possible in our Dispersal. The idea of having a Service in Dispersal was originated by S/L Smith, and it was an excellent one. Today, for the first time, the pilots are doing low-level cross countries in Typhoons.

Several of the officers of Site 6, on returning to their quarters, found a great quantity of small articles, such as chocolate bars, cigarettes, soap, belts, etc had been stolen. We have been missing things for quite some time now, and also have had our eyes on the culprit. The pilots couldn't wait to catch the thief in the act, so F/O's Moen & Porritt together with an M.P. located ??? Hamelin & looked through his Kit Bag They found a great array of articles, and after questioning him a bit, he admitted stealing the articles. He was immediately placed under close arrest.
