R.A.F.
Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland
Learned
this morning that F/O
R.M. MacTavish's body was found. He was flying Hurricane
LO-564 & crashed near Loch Dorn
(??).
"Mac" was a grand fellow, popular with everyone, and
really had a great future ahead of him. It's rather difficult to
find words to express just how much "Mac's" presence
will be missed. One or more of the pilots will be going up to
Ayr for the funeral.
W/C
Davidson talked to all the pilots of the Wing in our Dispersal
at 0900 hrs. Informed that we would be on Ops on the 21st. He
stressed the necessity of R/T silence. Passwords on I.F.F. by
F/O Geoffrey, also S/L Norsworthy gave us information on just
how to ditch a Typhoon. Started fixing up Dispersal, scrounging
furniture, cabinets, etc. Started cannon firing in the Typhoon
this afternoon. Word came through that F/O's Barton &
Burgess were posted to RCAF "E" Depot, Harrington.
The
C.O. is trying to cancel Burgess posting & I sincerely hope
he does.
