Post Script:

It is with sadness that I post the following obituary as printed in the Toronto Globe and Mail . Although I never met him personally,  I got to know this kind soul through his photos and notes that he so generously shared with me.  To his family, my sincerest condolences. To Geale, my sincerest thanks.

HEWSON, Geale William RCAF, 439 Squadron, 1940-45; B.Comm., U. of T (Trinity '49), FCA, 1982

In loving memory of Geale William Hewson, 83 years, died Thursday morning, March 10, 2005, peacefully at his home in Sudbury, Ont., surrounded by his family. Born in 1921 in Newmarket, Ont. to parents Fred and Jessie Hewson (later of Niagara-on- the-Lake). Devoted husband of Margaret (Peg) nee Merwin, and loving father of Beth (Tom Zink) in Northampton, Mass. Ric (Dorothee) in Kitchener, Ont., Margie Lougheed (Dale) in Lucknow, Ont., and Ben in Kelowna, B.C. He took great pleasure and pride in the active lives of his 8 grandchildren. He is also survived by his caring sister Elizabeth in Virgil, Ont. He was predeceased by his brother Ted in 1993.

Geale ''Hewie'' served in World War II as a flying officer in the 439 Tiger Squadron, and was a POW for 8 months. Upon graduation from U. of T. (Trinity College '49) with a B.Comm, he became a Chartered Accountant (1957) based in Sudbury, ultimately becoming the Regional Executive Partner of Ontario for Thorne Riddell (now KPMG). In 1982 he was awarded an FCA, and he retired from active practice in 1986.

Geale was a highly respected member of the Sudbury business community and made numerous contributions to the success of many businesses and enterprises during his career. In particular he spearheaded the reconstruction of the Church of the Epiphany after the devastating fire of 1987. He had a great love for Northern Ontario and enjoyed its many activities, including sailing and golfing. He will be missed.

Funeral Service will be held at the Church of the Epiphany on Monday, March 14, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the church on Sunday, March 13, 2005 between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Church of the Epiphany or a charity of choice would be appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to the Jackson & Barnard Funeral Home.
