Aclose-up of the
artwork detail. For you Tiger Modelers I suggest you use a large black china marker to
paint the tiger striping.
Strange things in the skies of Merry Ole'England
Culprits
or victims.....to be determined.
How 439 got its first Tiger
Striped paint scheme is the subject of a great debate. What is known is
that the event occured in 1969 during
the
Woodbridge Tiger Meet hosted by the USAF 79th TFS. There are unsubstantiated
reports
(see next page)
that it was painted with a paint brush during this famous meet
by persons unknown.
CF12833
pictured above became intentionally or not,
the NTM's & 439 Squadron's
first Tiger Bird in 1969
and possibly in 1970 also. More on this at a later.
