This is a
preliminary work as I hope to cross link this listing
with excerpts from the Squadron's war diaries and other
pages found on this website. The
list of 439 Vampire tail numbers was compiled by and is provided
by Canadian author John
Bradley. Used

17060 |
While
attempting a landing at Chatham on 10 Jan 1952, the aircraft flew
into the slipstream of the lead aircraft and was forced down into
the snow about 50 feet short of the runway. The aircraft was
repaired. |

note: What
was 439 doing with a Vampire you say?? Well it is true that 439 never
had Vampire jets on its inventory, it "inherited" one when a
439 pilot was tasked to ferry Vampire 17060 to its new home at 421
Squadron in Chatham, New Brunswick. Since the aircraft had not
yet been TOS (taken on strength) by 421, and had been SOS (stricken
off strength) by its previous unit of ownership, the aircraft was
assigned to the squadron (439) that carried out the ferry flight,
and only for the time needed to complete the Flight Safety Investigation.
