Captain Timothy Kirk Leuty

While stationed at Baden, Germany, Captain Timothy Kirk Leuty was killed on the 17 April 1990, while flying a Canadian CF-18 Hornet (tail number 188765) following a mid-air collision with another CF-18 (tail number 188797) over Karlsruhe, Gemany. Kirk was just 29 years of age and was married to Barbara Leuty of Barrie, ON. Father of Michelle and Daryl Leuty.

"Kirk was born on December 24, 1959 in St. Thomas, ON and spent the 
next five years of his life living in the United States before returning to Ontario in 1965. He spent his elementary school years in  Brighton, ON and his high school years at Laura Secord Secondary School in St. Catharines, ON. 

 Kirk and his wife Barb were married in August, 1981.  Kirk graduated from Confederation College in Thunder Bay in 1982 and flew as a Bush Pilot for that summer.  He joined the  Airforce in 1983, starting off in London, ON with bootcamp in Chilliwack, BC.  He moved on to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where he flew Tutor Jets (with "the BIG 2 -best in the west") and F-5s. Kirk  started flying F-18s in Cold Lake, Alberta before he was stationed in Germany. 

He flew the European airshow circuit demonstrating Canada's F-18 capabilities and his air group did very well in the Top Gun competitions in Florida.  During one airshow ( Paris, 1989) a Russian  MIG crashed and Kirk was first on the scene to comfort the ejected pilot ( Pilot Anatoly Kvochur ) Kirk had three months left in his European tour of duty when his accident occurred. 

In April 1990, he was involved in a head-on,  mid-air collision over Karlsruhe, Germany.  The other pilot safely ejected.  At the time, Kirk had a four year old daughter, Michelle, and a two-year old son, Daryl.  His daughter Nina was born in January, 1991.  Kirk was a proud, devoted and loving father, husband, son, brother and friend."
