Book of Remembrance - Volume  I

Flying Officer Roswell Murray MacTavish

Royal Canadian Air Force

Son of Wilfrid Lawrence MacTavish and Edith Jane MacTavish, of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Died on 18-Mar-1944 at the age of 24 while based at Ayr, Scotland, training for war.

The following entry is from 439's War Operations Record Book (Form 540): About 7 minutes after setting course, while flying at 3, 300 feet between 2 layers of clouds, F/O R.M. MacTavish's  aircraft was seen nosing over and heading straight down. No word was heard from "Mac", and it was believed that he crashed, but we are hoping against hope that he is all right.

F/O R.M. MacTavish's body was found the next day. His Hurricane LO 564 crashed near Loch Docr.

Following entry is from The Canadian Virtual War Memorial website  courtesy of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

F/O R.M. MacTavish (J/22385) is buried at AYR CEMETERY, United Kingdom, Grave Reference: Sec. R. 1931. Div. Grave 2721.
