Captain Paul James Rackham

Canadian Armed Forces

 


The son of John Henry and Vittorina (nee Carrer) Rackham and brother of Ralph Rackham of Willowdale, Ontario, Paul Rackman was born May 16, 1948 London, England and enlisted September 6, 1966 at Toronto, Ontario.

While stationed at Baden, Germany, Captain Paul Rackham was killed on the 10 May 1973, while on an exchange mission in Norway. His Canadian 104 Starfighter tail number 104864 crashed while on a final turn (landing pattern) at Bodo, Norway.

He was just 24 years old.

 

Captain Paul James Rackham was the first Canadian serviceman whose remains were sent home to Canada and the first to travel the long lonely road that is now known as the Highway of Heroes.

Captain Paul James Rackham  is interred at the HOLY CROSS CEMETERY located in Langstaff, Ontario.
