Upon arrival in Greece, the Squadron was briefed , and told that this was a full NATO exercise involving German, Canadian and Greek Air Forces, and some 3,000 Army troops from England, Germany and Greece. The exercise simulated a border skirmish between Greece and the Soviet Satellite country of Bulgaria, which touches on the northern border of Greece. The day after arrival, the Squadron took up alert state from dawn to dusk, and flew fighter sweeps near the border, and practiced intercepts between their own aircraft. Maximum effort was carried out for eight days, and when the exercise was terminated, a weary bunch of pilots climbed into a Bristol to go to Athens for a relaxing (?) two days before firing up for the return trip to Marville.
