Shell Of Innocence

He looks outside from his empty shell
He hears the screams from broken toys around him
Cloudy skies, and a clouded mind
He takes it for granted that pain isn't contagious.

Damn life, damn world, oh, damn it all cause there's still
another lesson to learn.
Hard luck, hard life, I've seen it all, and a little wiser from the bruises.

I think I know they thought he wouldn't go, but the truth is different to each
one of us.
I think he knows what he wanted to learn, hurt himself to know the pain.

And we all cried a silent tear for the crime that we wouldn't admit,
And then all try to fit another bone into a closet
that's already to full.

So when the Bible said he should not steal, he gave it back out of fear,
but how can I judge, when I'm just as bad, and my soul is worn and frayed.

Oh, damn this life cause the lessons I've learned were not what was meant
from the start,
And the flood of sympathy I gave when you fell, was only to proclaim
at the Gates.
But still he looks outside a shell at a modern world of tragedy,
knowing full well he can't fix all the toys, and someday, he too, will die.

And the child looks on..
