While all this is going on, the Colour party, once having quit the parade square, encases the old Standard, and leaves it under the guard of Sgts Gilles Gaudreault and Réjean Dubé. The new standard is then marched encased under escort to the centre and rear of the parade. Once The DCO moves into position, the Colour party marches out detouring around the CO and halts before the drum altar. When escorting the Colours, the armed guards carry their weapons at the shoulder on right side.

However, prior to marching on the new encased Colours, the Senior Colour Officer ordered a change arms, so that the wapons are now carried on the left side, a small but significant move to indicate that the Colour under their guard is unconsecrated and therefore not deserving of special status, reverence or salutes. The Standard Bearer then stands fast, and the rest of the Colour party wheels and take up their position between No. 1 and 2 Flights
