The battle then
moved rapidly eastward and by the end of August the Typhoon wing at
Lantheuil was out of range of the bomb-line. Among the last attacks carried
out from the Norman base were two strikes at Mailleraye-sur-Seine, where
enemy troops and vehicles were queued up waiting to be ferried across the
river. Diving through an intense barrage of flak, the pilots hit a petrol
dump, which exploded in a great sheet of flame
