Most
of the missions from Lelsbroek were armed reconnaissance over Holland in
search of vehicles and barges. Seldom did the pilots return empty-handed.
There were also several calls for close support of the Army, on which the
Squadron helped knock out gun posts and defences near Ghent and attacked
flak positions and other targets in the Arnhem - Nijmegen area in support of
the great airborne operation on 17 September.
Flak claimed two more victims,
F/O G.W. Hewson who bailed out and was taken prisoner, and P/O R.W. Vokey
who was killed in the crash of his aircraft.
