Operation Leapfrog -1

The Sabre Era

Leapfrog I was hoped  to be completed in 4 days with scheduled stopovers at Bagotville, Goose Bay (Labrador), Bluie West Keflavik (Greenland), Kinloss (Scotland) and finally North Luffenham a total distance of 3560 statue miles. Photo source: 439 Sqn Archives

Leading off the first section of four aircraft S/L Bricker launched at 0930 hours for the first leg of the trip to Bagotville, Quebec,  but with bad weather at every turn, it took 16 days to complete. On top of that, S/L Bricker, suffering a bout of appendicitis was forced to turn over the lead to Flight Lieutenant Bill Bliss, and finished the trip in a North Star.

Meanwhile the Ground Crews left in the relative comfort (militarily speaking) of the North Star.
