A
high light of the evening was the first official public display of the
late F/L Johnny Saville's medals, which had been given in trust to the
Squadron by his nephew, Peter Watson on behalf of the Saville family.
The medals are fully mounted and encased in a large frame on a blue
velvet background. The top left depicts an inlaid photo F/L Saville ,
flanked by a pilot wings and hat badge of the era. The medals, of
course, occupy the centerpiece. Below on inlaid parchment paper, the
details of F/L Saville's relentless and selfless attack on German Radar
positions on the Guernsey Islands that cost him his life.
As
a symbol representing all the 439 pilots lost during WWII, this display
will be on public display in the 3 Wing Aviation Museum
